〈투명인간이 되든, 춤을 추든 Slow Carnival World〉

이 작업은 개인과 사회의 경계를 유동적이게 하는 것들을 알아차리는 지점에서부터 시작된다. 투명인간이 된다는 다소 불가능해 보이는 상상이 400년 전부터 우리에게 남겨진 하나의 장치라면 어떨까? 허준이 집대성한 의학서 『동의보감(東醫寶鑑』(1610)에 등장하는 ‘은형법(隱形法)’은 그 당시 ‘몸을 숨기는 법’, 즉 ‘투명인간이 되기’ 위한 레시피로 남아 있다. 이 작업은 은형법이 남겨지게 된 배경을 파헤치며 이를 조상이 남긴 비밀의 선물로 추론한다. 투과적으로 변한 몸은 다양한 공존의 양태를 찾게 되며 춤을 추고 받게 된다. 춤은 이미 한 사람에서부터 시작해서 다른 사람으로 전해지는 증여(transmission)의 과정을 겪은 지 오래된 경계의 것이다.

〈투명인간이 되든, 춤을 추든(Slow Carnival World)〉은 투명인간의 상태로 함께 춤추는 사회를 꿈꾸는 멀티센소리 공연(multi-sensory performance)이다. 이 곳은 ‘더 느리게 있기’를 호출하는 공간이다. 초대된 사람들은 어떤 공동의 신비한 힘을 가진 텍스트를 따라가고 반응하며, 느린 카니발의 세계로 들어간다. 함께 듣고, 쉬고, 삼키고, 다공성의 몸을 상상하며 헛것이 된다. 집단 자각몽의 상태에서 어쩌면 ‘투명인간의 유보된 춤’이 발생할지도 모른다. 외부와 내부, 과거와 미래, 고통과 유머, 사실과 사변을 넘나들 때, 우리는 춤 외에 무엇을 주고받게 될까?

This project began by noticing what makes the boundaries between individuals and collective fluid. What if the seemingly impossible task of “becoming invisible” was the very device left to us by our ancestors 400 years ago? “Eun-Hyung-beop,” which appears in the ancient Korean medicine book 𝘋𝘰𝘯𝘨-𝘶𝘪-𝘣𝘰-𝘨𝘢𝘮 or “how to hide your body” also known as “how to become an invisible body.” This project speculates the background of the recipe and conceives it as a secret gift for collective surviving left by the ancestors. In this performance, bodies that are dreaming to become permeable are co-present in the space and exchange movements in delay. Without knowing where one begins and the other ends in these evanescent states, dance happens. What if it is not a coincidence that dance has a long-standing history of “transmission”: being passed onto another, dissolving the boundaries as invisible bodies do. In dance, transindividual bodies indeed want to be seen and disappear at the same time to lose oneself in relation.

Just like that, Slow Carnival World is a multi-sensory performance that dreams of a slow dance party in the state of becoming invisible. The work articulates surrealism through kaleidoscopic combinations of sound, body, food, textile and language. In this urgent call for slowing down, visitors will experience and react to the mantra-like text to enter into the slow carnival world. By listening, resting, chewing, and imagining porous bodies, together become ghostly. In a state of collective lucid dream, delayed dance by invisible beings may happen. When we hover between inside/outside, past/future, pain/humor, fact/fiction, what will we exchange as gifts here? You are invited to the experiential constellations and emotional sanctuary of the malleable species.
